Spotlight: Peronda FS

A fixture in our showroom for years: the patterned tiles of Peronda FS. Designed by Francisco Segarra, with the charm of old encaustic tiles and the ease of ceramic.

Some tiles don’t need to be new to stand out. Peronda FS has been in our showroom for years and still catches the eye first. Time to put this collection properly in the spotlight.

The story behind the letters FS

FS stands for Francisco Segarra, the Spanish designer and interior architect who created the collection for Peronda. Peronda has been making wall and floor tiles in Spain since 1827. Segarra studied the patterns of old encaustic cement tiles, the handmade floors you still find in Southern European townhouses, cafés and station halls, and translated them into ceramic. The result is a tile with a lived-in, vintage look that suits the way we live today.

Pattern without the hassle

Real cement tiles are porous, need sealing and stain easily. FS gives you the same look in ceramic: colourfast, no sealing required and suitable for underfloor heating. The patterns are designed so the tiles can be laid in random order and still form a coherent whole. Stars, flowers and classic rosettes in soft, slightly weathered tones, mostly in 45x45 cm. A size that lays calmer than the small cement tiles of the past.

How to use it

FS is at its best as an accent. A carpet of patterned tiles in the hallway with a calm tile around it. The floor of the toilet or utility room. A strip in the kitchen, right under the island. Or the wall of the walk-in shower, combined with a plain tile in the same tone. Next to a sleek concrete look or a warm wood look, the pattern really comes alive.

Come and see it in Itterbeck

Patterned tiles need to be seen in real life. On a screen they look busy, on the floor they fall into place. In our showroom the FS tiles are laid out loose, so you can pick them up, put them side by side and combine them with the tiles you have in mind. One colour is shown as a larger surface, so you can see what the pattern does when it runs on. Feel free to take a sample home.
